Social media now plays a key role in our society. Schools and those in the education sector must know how to use social media appropriately and safely whilst supporting the reputation of their schools and safeguarding their pupils.
This essential CPD course provides you with the core content you need to know to implement best practice in relation to social media usage as a school, including by pupils and staff, and how to form and implement an actionable social media policy.

Module 1: The purpose of a social media policy in school
Module one covers the purpose of a social media policy in a school, how to write the policy and how this helps to safeguard young people and protect the school’s reputation.
Module 2: Roles and responsibilities
This module explains how the policy should outline the expectations of governors, senior leadership, staff, parents and students and how to make it clear who to go to if an issue arises.
Module 3: Acceptable and unacceptable use of social media
Module 3 explores what schools should expect from each member of the school community to ensure safety, the importance of the policy around posting pictures of minors, and explores the questions, risks and benefits of each point to inform school leaders.
Module 4: Recording and addressing social media concerns
This module explains how to manage safeguarding issues that arise, including efficient ways of recording and storing evidence and how to immediately address them.
Module 5: Reputational issues associated with social media
Module five explores how social media can boost a school’s reputation and the benefits of using it but also how it can have a negative impact and the associated issues it can raise.
Module 6: Intervention and crisis management strategies
Module six explores how schools can appropriately deal with issues that arise with social media use, exploring intervention and crisis management strategies relating to both pupils and teachers.
Module 7: The format of the policy
Module seven explores a possible layout of a social media policy document that boosts both the efficiency and efficacy of the policy.
