Hindhayes Infant School

Hindhayes Infant School has been part of the Street community for more than 80 years. Established in 1928, the school provides education for pupils aged 4-7-years-old.

Being School Members with The National College has afforded staff the opportunity to access our breath of EYFS and Primary training – something which the Hindhayes senior leadership team have been very praising of.

Besides this, they’ve been appreciative of the responsiveness which The National College offers in relation to educational policy and guidance updates.

High-quality EYFS training

Finding details on all things EYFS related has been a difficulty for the school, but having The National College as a tool has gone a long way to alleviating that burden.

Lucy Shakesby, who is the Deputy Headteacher, Quality of Teaching, Learning and Assessment Lead and Literacy Co-ordinator at Hindhayes Infant School said: “Particularly, the quality of the EYFS training.

“It is really hard and, I’ve worked here for 21 years and trying to get information on EYFS is challenging, so to have that has been fantastic.”

At The National College, we aim to react quickly to current topical issues, and move swiftly to prepare training to keep senior leaders abreast.

Mrs Shakesby couldn’t praise this feature enough, and explained just how beneficial the frequency of the updates are.

“The fact that the training is current is a real help too,” she highlighted.

“I like the fact that you at The National College cover the changes which are happening in each subject area – so your mathematics and so forth, which are really useful.

“You can go onto the website two or three days after you hear something on the grapevine, and you’ll know that The National College are on it and are putting something together.”

Mrs Shakesby declared: “The training is always delivered by presenters who have really good credibility.

“They’re the sort of people who you can see, when they introduce themselves, they know absolutely what it is that they’re talking about.

“Especially in the case of the same person who delivered the three literacy webinars for primary. I just think that’s really useful, because you can keep a thread running.”
