About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 50 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide Teaching Assistants with advice and practical guidance on enhancing provision for pupils with SEND to foster independence, enhance access to learning and improve outcomes overall.

The Education Endowment Foundation’s (EEF) report, Making the Best Use of Teaching Assistants includes an assessment of the use and impact of Teaching Assistants in the classroom, and makes evidence-based recommendations for the development of this important role to contribute to high-quality teaching and learning, including for pupils with SEND.

In this webinar, Karen Pilling, SEND expert and acting Deputy Head, with extensive experience in leading SEND training, discusses EEF findings and explains how Teaching Assistants can best support pupils with SEND in 1:1 and small group work, and in the wider classroom.

Learning Outcomes

  • Becoming conversant with a range of techniques which Teaching Assistants can employ specifically to enhance provision for pupils with SEND.

  • Understanding the background to and findings of the EEF report with regard to further development of the TA’s role.

  • Appreciating the variety of learning difficulties and/or disabilities which are classed as SEND and the differing additional support needed.

  • Understanding the challenges associated generally with the TA’s role and specifically in supporting pupils with SEND.

  • Understanding the importance of collaboration with teaching staff to deliver consistent, high-quality support and improve outcomes for all pupils.
