About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 42 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders and teaching staff with expert insight into draft guidance for awarding organisations on producing accessible assessments in compliance with legal obligations, to inform understanding and engagement in consultation on the guidance.

On 1 November 2021, Ofqual published its Consultation on designing and developing accessible assessments, inviting feedback on draft provision for assessments which is intended to ensure that all learners, including those with disabilities, are able to access assessments without unnecessary obstacles. The consultation process started on 1 November 2021 at 09:30, and will close on 24 January 2022 at 23:45.

In this webinar, Michael Chiles, Principal examiner, curriculum development expert, school leader & author of The CRAFT of Assessment, will provide an in-depth review of the principles of accessible assessments, including exams, established in Ofqual’s draft guidance, highlight the implications for staff and pupils and the importance of school’s participation in the consultation process.

Learning Outcomes

  • Gaining an insight into Ofqual’s draft guidance on producing accessible assessments, including exams, to inform schools' engagement in the consultation process.

  • Appreciating schools’ legal duties in the provision of accessible assessments, including the requirement to advance equality of opportunity under the public sector equality duty.

  • Understanding the principles of accessible assessment in the guidance, including avoiding unnecessary burdens on learners and facilitating reasonable adjustments.
