About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 47 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, subject leaders, teachers and teaching assistants with an overview and understanding of the definition and techniques involved in differentiation and how it can enhance pupils’ experiences during education recovery.

Differentiation is a vital skill in a teacher’s toolkit. They must be able to adapt their delivery to be able to meet the Teachers’ Standards, in which they must “know when and how to differentiate appropriately, using approaches which enable pupils to be taught effectively”. This also includes being able to “have a clear understanding of the needs of all pupils” to ensure that differentiation’s implementation in the classroom is a success.

In this webinar, Matt Bromley, a senior school leader and teacher with over 20 years’ experience working in education, encourages teachers to understand how differentiation can enable all pupils, no matter their background or starting point, to access an ambitious curriculum and achieve improved outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding what’s meant by the term ‘differentiation’ with respect to ‘adaptive teaching’ and its importance in engaging pupils of different abilities.

  • Demonstrating an awareness of the methods involved in implementing differentiation techniques in the classroom and ensuring that pupils respond positively to them.

  • Encouraging pupils to engage with differentiation techniques in a positive and supportive classroom environment, with an emphasis on the reduction of the threat level.

  • Recognising the importance of embedding high expectations into pupils as part of their learning and the benefits they bring to the classroom.

  • Understanding the key characteristics of quality teaching, as defined by the DfE, and how in-class support can provide additional assistance.
