About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 1 hour 28 minutes (approx)

This webinar will provide headteachers, governors and all school staff with insight into the DfE’s consultation on measures to improve the clarity and consistency of behaviour in school, suspension and permanent exclusion guidance, and explain how they can contribute to the process.

On 3 February 2022, the DfE opened consultation on its revised Behaviour In Schools Guidance and Suspension and Permanent Exclusion Guidance, both published in January 2022 and informed by feedback from call for evidence on behaviour management strategies, in-school units and managed moves, views shared during wider stakeholder engagement, and evidence gathered during the Timpson Review of School Exclusion. The consultation closes on 31 March 2022.

In this webinar, Jayne Robinson, school Leader and SCITT tutor whose 25 years’ experience includes roles as NQT mentor and EYFS lead, will help schools to understand changes to each guidance document, the rationale behind the consultation and the importance of using this opportunity to help enhance provision for all children, regardless of background.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the DfE’s revisions to behaviour, suspension and permanent exclusion guidance to inform schools’ responses to consultation and contribute to enhancing pupil outcomes.

  • Appreciating the background to and rationale for the DfE’s proposed revisions to behaviour in schools, suspension and permanent exclusion guidance.

  • Gaining insight into proposed guidance on managing behaviour, creating a school culture which sets high expectations of behaviour, and responding to and preventing misbehaviour.

  • Understanding the responsibilities of headteachers, independent review panels and governing boards in considering suspensions and permanent exclusions.

  • Appreciating clarification on the use of interventions, such as managed moves and off-site direction, examination of data by governing boards and off-rolling.
