About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 41 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will equip headteachers, senior leaders, career leaders, governors, teachers and practitioners with knowledge and skills to help them implement an effective careers programme aligned with the Gatsby Benchmarks and which fulfils schools’ statutory duties embodied in the DfE’s ‘Careers guidance and access for education and training providers’.

Given the impact of the pandemic, it has never been more important for schools to provide high-quality careers education at secondary level, to help young people develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to make informed career choices, navigate career pathways and prepare to achieve goals in adult life.

This webinar will explore the key elements of the Gatsby Benchmarks and DfE’s statutory guidance, and explain how schools can develop comprehensive careers education which combines work experience, personal guidance and engagement with prospective employers, further and higher education providers, so that school leavers are fully prepared for the next stage in their lives.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to design and develop an effective careers programme which inspires young people to explore career opportunities, engage with learning and prepares for future success.

  • Gaining familiarity with changes to the DfE guidance, such as references to the updated Ofsted inspection process, which now also covers careers guidance.

  • Appreciating schools’ legal duties with regard to careers education, and the role of the governing body in contributing to a strategic careers plan.

  • Understanding how to use the Gatsby Benchmarks in the development of a careers programme which broadens opportunities and experiences in preparation for employment.

  • Being able to identify further resources to inform the development of effective careers education which broadens horizons, engages learners and enhances future employability.
