Broad-ranging factors can trigger loneliness in childhood - for example, a move to a new home or school, family conflict, bereavement, bullying, disability or financial disadvantage, and not least, the loss of social skills and connection as a result of lockdown. Research suggests that loneliness can cause mental health issues, which themselves, can compound feelings of loneliness.

In this webinar, Anna Bateman, subject matter expert on mental health and wellbeing, who has worked in an advisory role for the DfE, explores the causes of loneliness in young children, and explains the steps schools can take to address the issue in their own settings.
