About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 45 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders and governors with practical advice on implementing the EEF’s Guidance Report, Effective Professional Development, to inform the provision of impactful professional development to support high-quality teaching and improve pupil outcomes.

Recent government initiatives, including the Early Career Framework Reforms and new National Professional Qualifications, continue to underline the important role of professional development in enhancing teachers’ practice at all career stages, in turn helping to narrow the disadvantage gap and improve attainment overall.

In this webinar, Stephen Burnage, expert practitioner, consultant and trainer with more than 25 years' experience in teaching and leading schools, explains how schools can implement the EEF’s recommendations on designing and selecting professional development which enhances teachers’ instructional capability.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to design and select evidence-based professional development which develops high-quality teaching, aligned with school improvement goals.

  • Appreciating the context of the EEF’s report on professional development, including the evidence base which underpins it, related government guidance and EEF reports.

  • Recognising key components, or mechanisms, of prospective programmes, such as building knowledge, motivating staff, developing teaching techniques and embedding practice.

  • Understanding how to ensure that professional development programmes are adapted to meet the school’s specific needs and supported by leadership.

  • Appreciating the importance of designing and selecting professional development programmes which use time strategically and efficiently.
