About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 59 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders and governors with practical guidance on formulating a staff retention strategy which enhances staff wellbeing, at the same time, ensuring team cohesion, consistency of provision, and reducing the financial burden associated with staff turnover.

Teachers have been leaving the profession in their thousands in recent years. Ongoing research into the phenomenon can provide school leaders with a good starting point for understanding the reasons for teachers’ dissatisfaction, so that they can be addressed within their particular setting.

In this webinar, Haili Hughes, head of education, senior lecturer, mentor, author, and former English teacher and senior leader, provides practical advice on developing a staff retention strategy which tackles teachers’ most common grievances and causes for leaving the profession.

Learning Outcomes

  • Being able to create an effective staff retention strategy so that teachers feel happy, fulfilled, and stay in post, to the benefit of the whole school.

  • Gaining insight into the teacher retention crisis, including the statistics and common reasons teachers cite for dissatisfaction with the profession and leaving.

  • Understanding how to establish effective practices in key areas such as marking and strategic planning, and addressing work/life balance.

  • Appreciating how to promote teacher wellbeing, including through the provision of mentoring, mental health support, CPD and flexible working opportunities.

  • Recognising the role of the SLT in establishing and maintaining supportive and trusting relationships which are adaptive to staff need.
