About the Webinar

Webinar Runtime: 53 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide school leaders, teachers and practitioners with practical guidance on incorporating observation and assessment into daily classroom activities so that they can determine progress levels, understand pupil needs and inform future provision, in line with the DfE’s reformed EYFS Framework and supportive curriculum guidance.

The DfE’s revised EYFS Framework will become statutory for all schools in September 2021. Early adopter schools are already adhering to the framework which establishes early learning goals in seven key areas of learning and development against which pupils should be assessed, supported by the recent DfE ‘Development Matters’ curriculum guidance.

In this webinar, Megan Dixon, a teacher, consultant, trainer and author who has worked with the EEF and on an advisory basis for the DfE and Ofsted, explains how schools can integrate observation and assessment into their daily practice so that there is minimal impact on staff workload and pupil contact time.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the Framework’s statutory requirements with regard to pupil assessment, including when and how pupils’ achievements should be assessed and reported.

  • Gaining an insight into the Framework’s early learning goals in seven areas of learning and development which all young children should have met by the end of Reception year.

  • Appreciating how the ‘Development Matters’ curriculum guidance can support practitioners in assessing each child’s level of development to inform what a child needs to learn next.

  • Understanding how to incorporate observation and assessment into everyday classroom activities without generating unnecessary data and paperwork.

  • Appreciating the need to identify children’s SEND quickly, so that all pupils can be set up with every chance of success as they embark on their school career.
