About the Webinar

This webinar will provide school governors and academy trustees with an in-depth review of the newly published guidance on governance structures and roles and changes to the Governance Handbook.

On the 8th October, the DfE released new role descriptors designed to provide high-level information on school and trust governance structures and the roles and the responsibilities within them. They also updated the Governance Handbook to reflect policy and legislation changes from the past year, including those which have been impacted by COVID-19.

In this webinar, experienced school governor and education professional, Naureen Khalid, will support governors and trustees to understand the structure of governance within their setting, range of powers members possess and the key governance and educational policy updates made to support schools in the year ahead.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the different roles in school and trust governance, core functions, decision-making abilities and expectations.

  • Recognising the structural relationships in school and trust governance and how these different layers of governance interact.

  • Recognising the legislative requirement for trusts and boards to appoint a clerk and understanding how this role can enable and facilitate efficient governance.

  • Understanding the key policy and legislative updates made to the Governance Handbook to ensure robust and effective governance in both schools and academy trusts.

  • Identifying the different areas of significant change across strategic leadership, accountability, people, structures, compliance and evaluation.
