About the Webinar

This webinar will provide senior leaders, subject leads and teachers with practical advice and guidance on developing approaches to extending teaching and learning time in school.

Extending school time and the length of the school day can help to provide additional academic or pastoral support to pupils. Schools should focus on developing and using targeted before and after school programmes which can help improve pupil’s performance but also their behaviour and relationship with their peers.

In this webinar, education expert and leadership and management trainer, Michelle Howard, will explore how schools can use extended school time as part of their catch-up strategy. It will discuss different approaches that schools can take, the importance of engaging parents and the benefits of developing an effective programme.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the current context and how schools can extend core teaching and learning time in schools using a more targeted approach for greater impact.

  • Recognising the evidence base for extended school times and developing targeted before and after school programmes.

  • Understanding what effective activities for extended school time catch-up could look like and ensuring effective implementation.

  • Identifying how schools can engage parents and staff and considering the options for academic and pastoral pathways of support.

  • Recognising the benefits of extending school time for more disadvantaged pupils and monitoring catch-up activity.
