About the Webinar

Schools have a statutory responsibility for safeguarding children with mental health difficulties and must ensure they have the appropriate measures in place for dealing with pupils who disclose mental health related problems.

This webinar is for Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) and deputy DSLs, designated senior leads for mental health and pastoral managers. It will help learners to understand what to do when a pupil discloses a mental health difficulty, both practically and emotionally, and provides advice and guidance on adopting the correct referral processes.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding your mental health requirements under DfE statutory guidance

  • What is meant by a ‘graduated response’ to support pupils

  • Gaining confidence in responding in a supportive way within a legislative framework

  • The importance of a de-brief for staff and constant learning

  • Exploring case studies and applying your knowledge
