About the Webinar

This webinar will provide senior leaders, subject leads and teachers with practical advice and guidance on delivering structured interventions for pupils who need it most.

For pupils who have fallen furthest behind, effective structured interventions which are delivered on a one-to-one basis or in smaller groups, can have a large impact on children’s progress and development. Evidence shows that focusing interventions on core skills, such as literacy and numeracy earlier, can help to negate any long-term negative impact on beginning secondary school.

In this webinar, Stefan Fusenich, a qualified inspector and DfE Advanced Teaching and Learning Coach will discuss how schools can develop high-quality intervention programmes that will help pupils who need targeted support during the catch-up curriculum and will provide them with the best opportunity to reach their full potential.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to develop structured intervention programmes based on different aspects of learning and pupil’s needs.

  • Recognising how to identify where structured interventions are most likely to have an impact and focusing on core areas, such as literacy and numeracy.

  • Developing interventions based on pupil’s behavioural or social and emotional needs and tailoring interventions focused on children with SEND.

  • Understanding the importance of implementing different assessment methods as part of intervention programmes to ensure well-targeted support and to monitor progress.

  • Recognising how to ensure consistent delivery through regular intervention sessions, maintained over a sustained period which are carefully timetabled.
