About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 53 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders and governors of independent preparatory schools and early years settings with expert insight into the DfE’s guidance on The Independent School Standards, with specific focus on quality of education and spiritual, moral, social and cultural (SMSC) development, to help schools enhance provision and ensure compliance in the event of an inspection.

The DfE’s guidance provides detailed advice on meeting The Independent School Standards, identifying best practice in complying with the standards and providing additional clarification in areas which are sometimes queried by schools. Inspectors will take the guidance into account when reporting on the extent to which the standards are being, or are likely to be met.

In this webinar, Stephen Burnage, expert practitioner, consultant and trainer with over 25 years' experience in teaching and leading schools, will explain how independent preparatory schools and early years settings can evaluate their quality of education and SMSC provision in light of the Independent School Standards to improve practice.

Learning Outcomes

  • Gaining insight into the quality of education and SMSC standards to help preparatory and early years settings enhance provision, ensure compliance and prepare for an inspection.

  • Understanding schools’ obligations as set out in the quality of education and SMSC standards and how these can be translated into exemplar good practice.

  • Being able to identify key priorities in the evaluation of current quality of education and SMSC provision, including assessment and evidencing compliance.

  • Recognising common pitfalls, and where and how to sharpen or adapt current provision in order to meet the requirements of the standards.

  • Being able to identify sources of further information and resources to enhance schools’ understanding of Independent School Standards and preparation for an ISI inspection.
