About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 1 hour 27 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide governors, headteachers, designated safeguarding leads and all school staff with an expert analysis of the key updates to the new Keeping children safe in education statutory safeguarding guidance to support their preparation for the 2021/22 academic year.

On Tuesday 6 July 2021, the DfE published the new ‘Keeping children safe in education’ statutory safeguarding guidance for schools and colleges, due to come into effect from 1st September 2021. The document follows a consultation process which sought views on revisions to the previous guidance, including updates to definitions, statutory responsibilities and safeguarding implementation.

In this webinar Christina Leath, experienced safeguarding expert and senior practitioner, will provide an in-depth review of the new guidance to help staff understand the core changes, what they mean for schools and how to best prepare for the new academic year.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the key differences between KCSIE 2020 and KCSIE 2021 and what schools need to have in place before September 2021.

  • Recognising how the new KCSIE places a greater emphasis on building awareness of and safeguarding children from sexual abuse in line with Ofsted recommendations.

  • Appreciating staff responsibilities in relation to protecting children’s mental and physical health and how it should form part of a whole school safeguarding approach.

  • Understanding the importance of developing an effective RSHE curriculum as part of wider safeguarding arrangements and embedding online safety into school policies.

  • Identifying ways schools can implement updated safeguarding measures to reflect changes in the definitions, risks and vulnerabilities.
