This webinar will provide headteachers, governors, senior leaders, curriculum leads and teaching staff with an expert insight into the DfE guidance for assessing and reporting the national curriculum at key stage 1 (KS1) in the 2021 to 2022 academic year.

On 11 October 2021, the Standards and Testing Agency published their ‘2022 key stage 1: assessment and reporting arrangements (ARA)’ statutory guidance for schools and governing bodies. The document provides information on changes for the 2021/22 academic year, advice on test administration, schools’ responsibilities and teacher assessment.

In this webinar, Jayne Robinson, School Leader and SCITT tutor whose 25 years’ experience includes roles as NQT mentor and EYFS lead, will provide an in-depth review of the new guidance, including clarity on key milestones during 2021 and 2022, steps schools can take to prepare for and administer KS1 tests as well as providing an overview of the marking process.

  • Understanding and reviewing the key changes for the 2021/22 academic year, including the phonics screening check and the engagement model as an assessment tool.

  • Recognising the key dates that schools must be aware of and acknowledging the responsibilities of headteachers, teachers and governing bodies in administering tests.

  • Identifying and reviewing what KS1 national curriculum tests for 2022 involve and ensuring correct procedures are carried out before, during and after participation.

  • Understanding processes and best practice regarding assessment administration, participation, teacher assessment and test marking arrangements.

  • Reviewing arrangements around the phonics screening check, recognising the consequences of ‘maladministration’ and appreciating schools’ responsibilities to parents.
