About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 52 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders and teachers with advice and practical guidance on using lunch and break time as an opportunity for social interaction, physical exercise and extra-curricular activity to enhance health and happiness.

Pursuing activities and interests outside the classroom gives pupils an enjoyable break from learning and an opportunity for positive engagement with peers in a safe and supportive environment. By making the most of lunch and break times, schools can effect a cultural transformation, enhancing wellbeing, resilience and engagement and reducing behavioural issues.

In this webinar, Stephen Burnage will define the principles of high-quality lunch and break times, explains how schools can evaluate current provision, and plan and resource a whole-school approach to bring about lasting change for every pupil.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to plan and implement lunch and break time activities to support pupils’ social, emotional and physical development.

  • Appreciating the transformative potential of high-quality, outdoor activities in terms of behaviour, engagement and overall school improvement.

  • Recognising how lunch and break time activities can be used to develop team building and social skills, and encourage creativity and resilience.

  • Being able to identify resources which support the provision of an inclusive programme of activities for all secondary level pupils.

  • Understanding how to evaluate current provision and take steps to create a whole-school approach to high-quality lunch and break times.
