About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 1 hour 11 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders, HR managers and governors with practical advice on implementing guidance from the DfE on staffing and employment, to inform decision-making in these areas, aligned with statutory duties.

On 19 October 2021, the DfE's Staffing and employment advice for schools was updated to include advice on ITT trainees. The document, which draws attention to relevant legislation and sources of up-to-date guidance and advice that schools need to consider in meeting their responsibilities as employers, was also updated earlier this year to reflect legal changes following EU exit.

In this webinar, Michelle Howard, education expert with experience in implementing change initiatives to improve school outcomes, will provide an expert insight into how schools should be managing their staffing and employment arrangements for the 2021/22 academic year and can ensure they meet their statutory and legislative requirements.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the roles and responsibilities of key personnel as part of staffing and employment matters in order to comply with legislative requirements.

  • Recognising the general principles that must be followed surrounding staff and headteacher appointments, including schools’ responsibilities under the Equality Act.

  • Appreciating the importance of TUPE and ensuring relevant safeguarding and employment checks are carried out during the recruitment process.

  • Identifying what and how to deliver on contractual matters, including statutory entitlements, conducting teacher appraisals and establishing disciplinary procedures.

  • Recognising how employment procedures may differ within schools designated with a religious character and where to seek further advice and guidance.
