About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 58 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will give midday supervisors an insight into their important role in children’s lives, and provide practical guidance on maximising opportunities to enrich play and contribute to healthier and happier schools overall.

Midday supervisors oversee approximately 20% of the school day. This puts them in prime position to help children to make the most of time away from the intensities of learning, by implementing a programme of high-quality play to enhance health, happiness and resilience, and improve behaviour and engagement upon return to the classroom.

In this webinar, Mike Follett, founder and director of OPAL Outdoor Play and Learning, will highlight the benefits of high-quality play and explain how midday supervisors can be instrumental in effecting positive change through play in their particular setting.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding why the role of lunchtime supervisor is so important in the lives of children and how it can be developed to enhance children’s daily lives and overall outcomes.

  • Appreciating different kinds of play and how they can help children develop life skills including team building, healthy relationships, creativity and resilience.

  • Recognising children’s innate need to play and the impact of high-quality play on health, happiness, behaviour, engagement with learning and attainment.

  • Gaining an insight into a range of resources available to schools to support better play and being able to evaluate their suitability for specific settings.

  • Understanding the next steps that midday supervisors can take to improve the play environment at their school, including building knowledge and expertise.
