About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 65 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide midday supervisors with an insight into their important role in young people’s lives, explaining how they can maximise opportunities to contribute to a whole-school approach to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Keeping Children Safe in Education 2021 highlights the fact that everyone who comes into contact with children has a role to play in safeguarding, which includes identifying concerns, sharing information, taking prompt action, and considering at all times what is in the best interests of the child.

In this webinar, John Rees, RSHE subject matter expert with over 25 years’ leadership experience, explains how midday supervisors can be instrumental in helping their school create a culture of vigilance, providing insight into safeguarding risk factors, types and signs of abuse, and identifying what constitutes an effective response, with emphasis on prevention and early intervention.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to develop the role of midday supervisor to maximise opportunity for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

  • Appreciating the broad-ranging types of safeguarding issues which schools commonly face, and factors which increase children’s vulnerabilities.

  • Gaining an insight into preventative measures, including implementing the values established in internal and external policy in everyday life.

  • Understanding how to recognise the signs of abuse and respond to a range of safeguarding incidents, using school systems in a way that makes children feel safe and supported.

  • Being able to evaluate current training needs and take the next steps to develop knowledge and expertise in safeguarding.
