About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 52 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide nursery managers and practitioners with an insight into and understanding of Montessori pedagogical practice and how different elements can be incorporated into early years settings.

The Montessori approach to education aims to develop children’s physical, social, emotional and cognitive abilities through exploring the world around them and using their imagination. It is largely based on self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play and encourages increased independence in children’s learning.

In this webinar, Sarah Cummins, montessori theory practitioner with 20 years’ experience as a teacher, SENDCO and headteacher, will explore the origins and background behind Montessori pedagogy, focusing on the core principles that Montessori is built on and which areas nurseries can look to implement in their own setting.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding what Montessori education means, how it developed and the research and evidence-base behind it.

  • Recognising the key characteristics and principles that define Montessori education and discussing the role of the teacher as part of the learning process.

  • Identifying the importance of the classroom and environment in which children learn in order to facilitate and encourage children’s development.

  • Appreciating the benefits of Montessori education and how practitioners could potentially bring in aspects of Montessori into their classrooms.

  • Recognising some of the challenges that nurseries might face when looking to implement elements of Montessori education into their setting and how to overcome them.
