About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 1 hour 4 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, mathematics leads and teaching staff with practical support and step-by-step guidance on how to prepare, administer and deliver the multiplication tables check (MTC) before its planned introduction as a statutory assessment in the 2021/22 academic year.

On the 20th April 2021, the Standards and Testing Agency updated their ‘Multiplication tables check administration guidance’, providing details on how to use the MTC service, enable access arrangements and administer the check. The guidance supports participating schools that choose to administer the check to some or all of their year 4 pupils in June 2021.

In this webinar, Marie Thompson, qualified maths teacher and psychology expert with 16+ years’ experience of outstanding practice in schools, will provide clarity on key milestones relating to the MTC, steps schools can take to prepare for and deliver the check as well as what actions to take following pupils’ completion.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding and reviewing details about the purpose, format, content and cognitive demand of the MTC and acknowledging key milestones.

  • Identifying how schools can prepare for the check, including steps to administer pupil registers and recognising when pupils should not be taking the assessment.

  • Recognising what access arrangement schools should have in place and how to enable them for pupils who need them.

  • Understanding how to generate passwords and pins, what equipment is needed and steps on how to prepare rooms.

  • Recognising how to administer the check, introduce it consistently, answer pupil queries and accessing results following completion.
