About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 49 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will equip headteachers, senior leaders, subject leads, curriculum leads and all teaching staff with knowledge and skills to address attainment gaps which have been further widened during school closures as a result of the pandemic.

The disruption to schooling, the transition to and from remote learning, changes to examination systems and the emotional toll on pupils – all will have impacted pupil attainment. Indeed, research indicates that much of the progress made in narrowing the gap for disadvantaged pupils could have been wiped out during this time.

In this webinar, Stefan Fusenich, teacher, educator and DfE subject learning coach with extensive management and teaching experience, analyses attainment trends and presents evidence-based strategies which schools can employ to overcome barriers and close attainment gaps for all pupils, including the most disadvantaged.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to develop and implement strategies which support all pupils to catch up, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

  • Appreciating the impact of school closures and transition to and from remote education on learning loss and attainment gaps.

  • Gaining insight into the trends in attainment over time and differences in terms of location, gender and income.

  • Overcoming the barriers and challenges faced by schools in closing the attainment gap, including behaviour management and provision of social and emotional support.

  • Being able to adapt strategies so that they address the needs of specific settings in effectively closing attainment gaps.
