This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders and governors of state-maintained primary and secondary schools with an overview of the National Tutoring Programme (NTP) for the 2021-22 academic year, so that they can consider how it can best support pupils most affected by the disruption to education as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The DfE reports that the NTP’s model of additional support can boost catch-up learning by as much as 3 to 5 months per pupil and, in June 2021, announced a huge expansion in tutoring for the 2021-22 academic year with an investment of £1 billion to provide an even more comprehensive package of tutoring support and options.

In this webinar, Marie Thompson, teacher, trainer and researcher with more than 16 years’ experience of outstanding practice in schools, will discuss how the DfE has enhanced its NTP offer to schools for the coming academic year and explain the three tutoring options and funding arrangements.

  • Gaining an insight into the range of support available to support disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils under the NTP for the 2021-22 academic year.

  • Being able to evaluate the impact of the programme in its first year, including schools’ engagement and feedback.

  • Appreciating the rationale for modifications to the programme in the coming academic year which are intended to provide a more effective means of accelerating pupil progress.

  • Understanding the three subsidised tutoring options, including school-led tutoring, accessing an approved list of tuition partners and academic mentors.

  • Recognising that the programme forms a part of a longer-term, evidence-based approach by the government to education recovery.
