About the Webinar

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders, subject leaders and teachers with advice and practical guidance on incorporating local context into secondary curriculum subjects to enhance teaching and learning, aligned with Ofsted expectations.

Schools’ local communities offer a rich seam of material which can be used to help bring the curriculum alive, make it feel more relevant and, at the same time, build a sense of local identity. Using local context can thus help schools realise Ofsted’s conception of a high-quality curriculum.

In this webinar, Adrian Gray, former inspector, Ofsted evaluator and academy trust consultant with extensive leadership experience, explains how schools can give local context to all subjects, and the many benefits this can bring.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to build local context across curriculum subjects to enrich and enhance schools’ curriculum offer.

  • Appreciating that local context should be a key driver for the school curriculum and the many benefits it can bring.

  • Recognising some of the barriers that prevent schools from linking the curriculum with locality, and how they can be overcome.

  • Appreciating how local context can be brought into almost every area of the curriculum, using one location as an example.

  • Understanding that local context can also be an important driver for personal development and community engagement.
