This webinar will equip headteachers, governors, senior leaders, subject and programme leaders and tutors with advice and practical guidance on developing early intervention strategies to maintain students’ engagement and motivation, and improve student retention.

Whilst a range of factors can affect student retention, such as socio-economic disadvantage, post-16 providers can implement a range of early intervention practices to help students overcome barriers to engagement, at the same time, enhancing academic outcomes and future career opportunities.

In this webinar, Stefan Fusenich, teacher, educator and DfE subject learning coach with extensive management and teaching experience, explains common causes of student disengagement, identifies indicators that students are at risk of dropping out, and practices to help them reconnect with learning.

  • Understanding how to implement an early intervention strategy to support the engagement and attendance of all students and enhance outcomes.

  • Appreciating the wide-ranging reasons why students drop out of further education, and common barriers to engagement and attendance.
