About the Webinar

This webinar will equip headteachers, governors, senior leaders, subject and programme leaders and tutors with advice and practical guidance on managing transitions and inductions to support student attendance, engagement and motivation, and improve retention rates.

The highest rate of student drop-out traditionally occurs during the first 42 days of a further education course, and may involve wide-ranging factors, including difficulty in adjusting to a new educational environment, enrolling on a course which doesn’t meet expectations, or a decision to change career direction. Post-16 providers can do much to overcome these challenges through careful design and delivery of the transition and induction processes.

In this webinar, Stefan Fusenich, teacher, educator and DfE subject learning coach with extensive management and teaching experience, explains how schools can carefully adapt transitions and inductions in post-16 settings to ensure that students have all the information to make informed decisions and are fully prepared and supported in their post-16 life.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to design and deliver effective transitions and inductions to support the attendance and engagement of all students in post-16 settings.

  • Appreciating the wide-ranging reasons why students drop out of further education during the first 42 days of a course

  • Being able to adapt the transitions process to avert future issues, including the provision of full information on and experience of the course and setting

  • Uderstanding how to deliver inductions which support the new intake of students, in terms of academic performance and social and emotional wellbeing

  • Recognising the early signs of difficulty which, if left unchecked, might result in a student leaving a course of study.
