About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 45 minutes (approx.)
This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders, teachers and practitioners with advice and practical guidance on incorporating financial literacy into the post-16 PSHE curriculum, equipping students with the skills they need to navigate 21st century life.

Teaching young people financial literacy brings lifelong benefit: it informs financial planning, goal setting and decision making, and empowers young people to take their place in the world as independent and responsible adults who are capable of supporting their own financial wellbeing, and that of their families in the future.

In this webinar, George Vlachonikolis, head of economics, chair of examiners and author of student and teacher resources, will explain, with practical examples, how post-16 settings can help students understand the complex world of personal finance, helping build financial skills and understand the implications of decisions.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to teach financial literacy to a post-16 audience to help them prepare for independence and adulthood

  • Recognising the benefits of teaching money management skills in building students’ self-confidence and sense of personal agency

  • Appreciating the importance of relating teaching and learning to pupil’s own circumstances, including their immediate and longer-term career aspirations

  • Being able to address all aspects of personal finance, including budgeting, current and savings account options, credit ratings and taking out loans and credit cards

  • Being able to identify a range of further resources to enhance financial literacy teaching and learning in post-16 settings
