About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 1 hour 12 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, governors, RSHE curriculum and subject leaders, teachers and practitioners with practical advice on implementing an RSHE study programme for post-16 students aligned with ESFA expectations.

ESFA guidance on 16 – 19 study programmes stipulates that programmes should include preparation for adult life and the acquisition of life skills, including staying safe. An effective RSHE study programme will need to address with sensitivity the risks associated with drugs, alcohol, tobacco and sex, to help post-16 students manage their current and future lives.

In this webinar, John Rees, RSHE subject matter expert with over 25 years’ educational leadership experience, will explain how post-16 providers can implement preventative drugs, alcohol, tobacco and sex education for older students as they prepare to navigate the adult world, reflecting ESFA study programme expectations.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to implement an RSHE study programme aligned with ESFA expectations to help post-16 students manage real-life situations as they transition to independence.

  • Gaining insight into ESFA’s expectations with regard to non-qualification activity to help students prepare for adult life and keep safe.

  • Appreciating that post-16 students will arrive with wide-ranging experiences and understanding of issues relating to RSHE, and the value of revisiting learning at key stage 4.

  • Recognising that a post-16 RSHE study programme should take account of students’ current experiences, as well as preparing them to manage experiences in the future.

  • Identifying a range of further sources of information and practical guidance to help to empower post-16 students to make healthy and safe choices in their personal lives.
