This webinar will provide headteachers, English leads, teachers and Teaching Assistants with an insight into the criteria which define a full systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) programme, so that they can review and, where necessary, amend provision in alignment with DfE requirements.

In April 2021, the DfE’s policy paper, Choosing a phonics teaching programme, announced the launch of a new validation service for SSP phonics programmes, with supporting documentation identifying 16 core criteria deemed essential for pupils to become fluent readers.

In this webinar, Jayne Robinson, School Leader and SCITT tutor whose 25 years’ experience includes roles as NQT mentor and EYFS lead, brings together criteria set out in DfE’s Teachers’ Standards, Early Years Framework, SSP policy and guidance documents, and Ofsted’s School Inspection Handbook, helping schools to evaluate current provision and ensure fidelity to a full SSP phonics programme.
