Webinar Duration: 55 minutes (approx.)

This webinar, in collaboration with the National Association of Teachers for Religious Education (NATRE), will equip headteachers, curriculum leaders, subject leaders and teachers and practitioners with knowledge and skills to evaluate current RE provision, and design a bold and coherent curriculum which best equips their pupils for future success, aligned with Ofsted expectations.

On the 12th May 2021, Ofsted published their ‘Research review series: religious education’ paper, reporting on factors that influence the quality of religious education (RE) in schools in England. Ofsted will use this understanding of subject quality to examine how RE is taught in England’s schools where RE falls under Ofsted’s inspection remit.

In this webinar, NATRE, the subject teacher association for RE professionals and national advocate for high quality RE teaching, explore how teachers can reflect on curriculum options within the context of their own setting, introduce up-to-date pedagogical ideas and resources to enhance provision, and engage all staff in the rationale for curriculum design to develop consistent and effective delivery in line with recently updated Ofsted guidance.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to formulate a rationale for the design of a RE curriculum which prepares all pupils for future learning and employment.

  • Identifying the questions which staff involved in curriculum design should be asking to refine existing provision within specific settings.

  • Gaining familiarisation with new pedagogical ideas and resources to enhance RE teaching and learning and pupil attainment.

  • Understanding the importance of engaging staff at all levels in the rationale for curriculum design for effective and consistent delivery.

  • Recognising the need to formulate a well-considered rationale for curriculum design in preparation for the possibility of an Ofsted ‘deep dive’.
