About the Webinar

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders and teachers with an understanding of the principles of instructional coaching, and how this evidence-based approach can help provide Early Career Teachers (ECTs) with a high-quality induction, and enable schools to fulfil their statutory induction duties aligned with the Early Career Framework (ECF) Reforms, 2021.

Instructional coaching offers an incremental and precisely targeted approach to training which can be integrated into an induction process for ECTs, providing schools with an effective means of discharging their statutory duty to provide high-quality support in the first years of teaching, when the learning curve is at its most steep.

In this webinar, Jayne Robinson, school leader and SCITT tutor whose 25 years’ experience includes roles as NQT mentor and EYFS lead, will explain how instructional coaching differs to traditional training, evaluate the evidence supporting its effectiveness, and provide practical guidance on implementing its principles as part of the induction process, so that schools can best support ECTs to meet the high expectations set out in the ECF.

Learning Outcomes

  • Gaining an insight into the principles of instructional coaching which schools can implement to enhance ECT induction and CPD for all school staff.

  • Understanding how this approach differs to more traditional training programmes and the additional benefits it brings.

  • Gaining familiarity with a range of research-based evidence regarding the effectiveness of instructional coaching.

  • Recognising schools’ statutory induction duties for ECTs and how instructional coaching can help schools fulfil them.

  • Understanding how instructional coaching can be integrated into the ECT induction process alongside core induction materials published by the DfE.
