About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 59 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, curriculum leaders, subject leaders, teachers and practitioners with insight into effective language and early literacy intervention to support pupils of reception age, following the impact of Covid-19.

In its Interim Briefing on the impact of Covid-19 on school starters, published in April 2021, the Education Endowment Foundation reported that children who started school in autumn 2020 needed more support than usual with communication, language and literacy.

In this webinar, Jayne Robinson, School Leader and SCITT tutor whose 25 years’ experience includes roles as NQT mentor and EYFS lead, provides in-depth insight into intervention and quality first teaching strategies which can be used to improve and support early language acquisition after periods of lockdown.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how pedagogical strategies and quality first teaching can help address concerns with early language development.

  • Appreciating the impact of disrupted schooling and periods of remote learning on children’s education, including early language acquisition.

  • Understanding some of the developmental issues which can follow times of instability, including acquisition of vocabulary.

  • Recognising the importance of oral language ability in determining future success in literacy and numeracy, as well as in employment and adult life.

  • Gaining familiarity with a range of further resources for support and intervention as children start their reception year in September 2021.
