About the Webinar

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders, governors and HR managers with advice and practical guidance on designing and delivering an effective staff recruitment and retention strategy which attracts a wide and diverse field of candidates and embraces life-friendly practice.

A report published by the National Foundation for Education Research (NFER) highlights that teacher supply challenges are returning in England: recruitment targets are unlikely to be met for a range of secondary subjects, and teacher retention rates are returning to pre-pandemic level. A high level of staff attrition has the potential to disrupt teaching and learning and increasing the workloads of staff who remain, whilst impacting budgets and morale overall.

In this webinar, Lindsay Patience, co-founder of Flexible Teacher Talent, teacher and SLT member, explains the who, where and how of effective staff recruitment and retention to help minimise the need to re-advertise roles, and reduce associated costs and disruption to the smooth running of the school.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to implement an effective staff recruitment and retention strategy for teaching and support staff

  • Appreciating the importance of selecting the right candidate for the role as a means of improving staff retention

  • Understanding how to identify groups from which candidates can be drawn, including returners, ITTs and ECTs, and underrepresented groups

  • Being able to identify a range of effective recruitment channels, including social media and job search websites and community networks

  • Appreciating the need to ensure that the terms and conditions reflects candidates’ needs in terms of flexible working, professional development and wellbeing
