In its White Paper, ‘Opportunities for all: strong schools with great teachers for your child’, the government sets out its mission for schools: to increase the national GCSE average grade in both English language and maths from 4.5 in 2019 to 5 by 2030. Disciplinary literacy – the ability to read, write and communicate according to the conventions of specific subjects – offers schools an effective strategy for developing pupils’ literacy skills within and across all disciplines.

This webinar will explain disciplinary literacy theory and how this can be embedded into effective practice, so that pupils are able to communicate in ways that are appropriate to the subjects of health and PE, enhancing pupil outcomes and literacy overall.
