About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 55 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, curriculum leaders, subject leaders, teachers and practitioners with advice and practical guidance on integrating mathematics into a broad and balanced curriculum which facilitates education recovery.

In planning for the new academic year, schools will be considering how to adjust their mathematics provision so that it aligns with Ofsted’s expectations as defined in the School Inspection Handbook, and also addresses gaps in knowledge and learning loss, in accordance with DfE non-statutory guidance, after disruption to schooling this year.

This webinar will provide a definition of the term ‘broad and balanced curriculum’ based on its context within government guidance, and explains how schools can adjust their mathematics curriculum to ensure that it prioritises gaps, misconceptions and insecure knowledge, particularly where these might present difficulties in mastering the next stage or accessing other subjects.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to integrate mathematics into a broad and balanced curriculum which facilitates education recovery, aligned with government expectations.

  • Gaining an insight into the term ‘broad and balanced curriculum’ and how this translates into best classroom practice.

  • Appreciating the challenges schools face in achieving government’s vision of the mathematics curriculum, due to the impact of the pandemic on teaching and learning.

  • Identifying critical content for progression, including achieving fluency in the fundamentals of mathematics, so that assessments and interventions can target these areas.

  • Being able to identify evidence-based best practice and resources to enhance teaching and learning, education recovery and pupil attainment.
