About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 58 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will equip headteachers, senior leaders, PSHE/RHE leaders, teachers and practitioners with advice and practical guidance on embedding the principles and practice of sustainability and climate change into the PSHE/RHE curriculum.

The DfE’s Strategy for sustainability and climate change stresses the importance of ‘giving all children, young people and adults the knowledge and skills to thrive in the green economy and to help restore nature.’ In helping pupils prepare for the opportunities and responsibilities of adult life, PSHE/RHE lessons offer a fitting forum for exploration of sustainability issues.

In this webinar, John Rees, RSHE subject matter expert with over 25 years’ educational leadership experience, explains how schools can incorporate the topics of sustainability and climate change into the PHSE/RHE lessons, at the same time, developing pupils’ understanding of social responsibility and good citizenship.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to incorporate the principles and practice of sustainability and climate change into PSHE/RHE lessons.

  • Being able to introduce sustainability a way that encourages pupils to think about the local and global impact of human activity.

  • Appreciating the importance of translating sustainability theory into whole-school action which visibly endorses and promotes the sustainability message.

  • Empowering pupils to reflect on the nature of choice and media messaging, and develop knowledge and skills to live safely, healthily, productively and responsibly.

  • Identifying a range of further credible sources of information and practical guidance to enhance teaching and learning about sustainability and climate change.
