About the Webinar

This webinar will provide headteachers, school leaders and English teachers with advice and practical guidance on continuing to inspire a love of reading in all pupils to enhance their learning experience inside and outside the classroom, and attainment across the curriculum.

By tapping into pupils’ natural curiosity and imagination whilst reading, schools can accelerate the acquisition and development of literacy skills, in turn enabling them to access other curriculum subjects with confidence and enthusiasm, and widen knowledge and understanding of the world in general.

In this webinar, Carl Pattison, early literacy consultant, English Hub Lead and Early Reading Lead for the Flying High Trust, explains how to implement a whole-school approach to reading for pleasure, helping pupils to continue a lifelong learning journey.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to implement a whole-school reading strategy which instils a love of reading in pupils, enhancing learning experiences and overall attainment.

  • Appreciating the importance of reading for pleasure in raising engagement and attainment in literacy, and in paving the way to success in other curriculum subjects.

  • Being able to review and evaluate current subject knowledge and practice, including the choice of texts currently available in school.

  • Gaining insight into a range of effective approaches which can help establish a whole-school, ‘reading for pleasure’ culture for pupils of all abilities.

  • Being able to identify a range of further sources of information and resources to spark pupils’ imagination and desire for knowledge.
