About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 1 hour 4 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide governors, senior leaders, headteachers and department heads with expert insight and guidance on the recent updates to the Ofsted School inspection handbook and Section 8 school inspection handbook, due to effect from September 2021.

On 28 June 2021 Ofsted published a number of changes to both their ‘School inspection handbook’ and ‘Section 8 school inspection handbook.’ The revisions take into account the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, reflect updates to government guidance and clarify Ofsted’s position in relation to harmful sexual behaviour, including how they expect schools to confront sexual harassment, abuse and violence among children and young people.

In this webinar, Matt Bromley will explore what the changes to the handbooks are in greater depth, what they mean for schools and how senior leaders can prepare for the new arrangements before routine inspections begin again in the autumn.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how Ofsted are amending their inspection criteria to reflect updates related to DfE and government guidance for schools.

  • Recognising what Ofsted expectations are on tackling sexual harassment, online sexual abuse and sexual violence.

  • Identifying what safeguarding measures Ofsted will expect schools to have in place to help reduce children’s vulnerability to sexual abuse and address barriers to reporting.

  • Understanding the updates to personal development and a new section codifying Ofsted’s position on careers information, education, advice and guidance (CIEAG).

  • Recognising changes to gradings and descriptors, how Ofsted will evaluate the use of tutors and the updates made to reflect the new early career framework for teachers.
