About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 49 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide governors, headteachers, school leaders, SENCOs, teachers and teaching assistants with an overview and insight into proposals set out by the government to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND and those in alternative provision (AP).

On 29 March 2022, the DfE and Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) published their green paper titled ‘SEND review: right support, right place, right time’ for open consultation. The paper forms part of the government’s overall strategy to ‘level up’ opportunities for all pupils and provides an opportunity for schools (and parents) to deliver their views on proposals to ensure every child and young person with SEND and those in AP can thrive and be well prepared for adult life. The consultation will close on 1 July 2022.

This webinar will explore what the main findings into current SEND and AP provision have revealed, what changes the green paper is seeking consultation on and how the government will look to ensure every child and young person has their needs identified quickly and met more consistently.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding the main challenges and driving factors facing the current SEND system and the background against which the current review has been published.

  • Recognising how the government will look to implement a single national SEND and AP system, introduce new standards and how they would be delivered locally.

  • Identifying key proposals around building excellent provision from early years to adulthood and how the government will integrate SEND and AP systems with national standards.

  • Realising government proposals on driving greater accountability to enforce a culture change and ensure more effective local delivery against national standards.

  • Recognising how the government will commit to long-term change for children and families, what steps they will take next and how to provide responses to the consultation.
