About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 58 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, schools leaders and mental health leads with an overview of the DfE learning outcomes for senior mental health lead training and practical advice on what actions schools can take now.

On 22 June 2021 the DfE published their ‘Learning outcomes for senior mental health leads in schools and colleges’. The document sets out the learning outcomes that will enable a senior mental health lead to implement and sustain an effective whole school or college approach to mental health and wellbeing in their setting, aligning to the eight principles outlined in Public Health England’s (PHE) ‘Promoting children and young people’s emotional health and wellbeing’.

In this webinar Anna Bateman, subject matter expert on mental health and wellbeing, who works in an advisory role to the DfE, will provide schools with a review of the learning outcomes under the eight principles and what steps they can take now to support their training needs, with a view towards developing a coordinated and evidence-informed approach to mental health and wellbeing.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how the learning outcomes can be used to increase the knowledge of mental health leads and provide practical skills and tools to enable positive change.

  • Recognising what the eight principles to promoting emotional health and wellbeing in schools and colleges are and how they have been integrated into the learning outcomes.

  • Identifying the key components of each of the eight principles and understanding what leads should learn and what they should be able to implement.

  • Gaining practical advice on what actions school can take now to review existing mental health and wellbeing provision and to support training and development.

  • Recognising what additional training requirements should be considered as part of developing a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing.
