About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 42 minutes (approx.)

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders, governors and designated safeguarding leads with advice and practical guidance on supporting the mental and physical wellbeing of pupils who are victims of sexual harassment and violence.

Keeping Children Safe in Education 2021 places a statutory duty on all schools to promote the welfare of their pupils. This includes supporting the wellbeing of pupils who may have been directly or indirectly affected by sexual harassment and violence.

In this webinar, Anna Bateman, subject matter expert on mental health and wellbeing who has worked in an advisory role for the DfE, will explain how schools can effectively support pupils affected by sexual harassment and violence, exploring with Anthony Beckett, Senior Assistant Head Teacher the case study of Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School, Kingstanding, Birmingham, where such an approach is being implemented.

Learning Outcomes

  • Gaining an insight into how to take a wellbeing-focused approach to addressing sexually harmful behaviours in school.

  • Understanding the impact sexually harmful behaviours have on students’ mental health and the role of senior mental health leads.

  • Appreciating how to create an ethos and environment which promote respect, empathy and which eradicate sexual harassment and abuse.

  • Being familiar with related statutory and non-statutory guidance and understanding schools’ legal responsibilities with regard to safeguarding.

  • Recognizing how to challenge perspectives where harmful behaviours have been normalised and addressing barriers to seeking help.
