About the Webinar

Webinar Runtime: 53 Minutes

This webinar will provide school leaders, subject leads, curriculum leads and all teaching staff with practical advice and support in delivering effective master learning approaches to classroom teaching.

Mastery learning enables pupils to develop a deeper understanding of the curriculum through breaking learning down with clear, specified objectives which are pursued until they are achieved.

The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) report that the adoption of mastery learning can, on average, lead to an additional five months’ progress. It has been recognised as being particularly effective in the right environment and used the right way, can help to address the attainment gap.

In this webinar, Stephen Burnage, expert practitioner, consultant and trainer with over 25 years’ teaching and leadership experience, discusses the positive impacts mastery learning can have on pupils, explores models of effective practice and how mastery learning might look across the curriculum.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how mastery learning can be implemented into classroom practice and what conditions support effective practice.

  • Recognising the positive impact that mastery learning can have on pupil outcomes and developing techniques as part of wider strategies for learning.

  • Identifying models of good practice and developing a curriculum which makes best use of effective mastery learning approaches.

  • Understanding how mastery learning can be used as a contributory tool to help close the attainment gap.

  • Recognising how to plan and manage mastery learning in class and support pupils who are progressing at difference levels of pace.
