About the Webinar

Webinar Duration: 58 minutes (approx.)

This webinar, delivered in conjunction with the British Association for Early Childhood Education, will provide teaching assistants with an insight into strategy, practice and resources to help them fulfil their important role in supporting children’s development, in line with DfE’s reformed Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and supportive curriculum guidance.

Teaching Assistants form a large and important part of the workforce in early years settings and can have a huge impact on pupils’ first classroom experiences, paving the way for engagement, attainment and academic achievement as children progress through school.

In this webinar, the British Association for Early Childhood Education, a national charity supporting early years practitioners and campaigner for quality education for the youngest children, explains how Teaching Assistants can support schools in helping prepare young children for future success.

Learning Outcomes

  • Recognising the unique role of Teaching Assistants in early years settings in building positive relationships and supportive environments which promote learning and development.

  • Appreciating that changes introduced by the EYFS Framework Reforms provide Teaching Assistants with an opportunity to contribute to new ways of working.

  • Identifying resources, including DfE’s ‘Development Matters’ curriculum guidance which schools in early years setting can use to help fulfil statutory duties.

  • Appreciating the importance of managing frustrations, including workload and conflicting priorities, building relationships through teamwork, and self-care.

  • Identifying examples of evidence-based practice and resources that Teaching Assistants can draw upon for their own continuous professional development.
