About the Webinar

This webinar will provide school leaders, headteachers and PE leads with practical advice and guidance on delivering safe and effective remote PE lessons as part of DfE expectations towards developing a full remote education curriculum.

Following the announcement on Monday 4th January to place the UK into another national lockdown, all schools must now provide high-quality remote education, aligned as closely as possible with in-school provision. This includes PE, although the DfE acknowledges the difficulty in delivering the subject remotely in its Remote Education Good Practice guidance, updated in October 2020.

In this webinar, The Association for Physical Education (a Representative Subject Association for PE in the UK supporting delivery, learning and policy development) identifies ways in which remote PE lessons can be delivered safely and effectively to children in their home settings so that they can keep physically active and retain a sense of normality, to the benefit of their physical and mental health.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how to establish a regular routine of safe and effective PE activity which enriches remote education and aligns with wider curriculum delivery.

  • Recognising the expectations placed on schools to deliver remote education of a similar high quality to inschool provision.

  • Recognising the limitations and potential hazards associated with the delivery of remote PE lessons and the role of parents in implementing Health & Safety principles.

  • Being able to embrace technology fully in remote PE provision, taking account of pupils’ needs and a wide variety of home settings.

  • Identifying online PE resources which enhance pupil engagement and complement the schools’ own resources to ensure that children stay fit and active.
