About the Webinar

This webinar will provide headteachers, senior leaders, subject leads and teachers with advice and practical guidance on developing pupils’ vocabulary skills, helping them to understand word origins, formation and connections, to accelerate learning across the curriculum and prepare them for the next stage in their education.

Research has suggested that only 10% of the new words pupils learn are ever explicitly explained to them. Not only can unfamiliar words seem intimidating and off-putting, but they can also act as barriers to learning. By introducing some simple changes to the way new vocabulary is introduced in lessons, schools can facilitate understanding.

In this webinar, Adrian Gray, former inspector, Ofsted evaluator and academy trust consultant with extensive leadership experience, explains how schools can quickly and easily develop pupils’ skills with vocabulary, empowering them to use inbuilt clues to work out meaning and develop a secure understanding of key concepts in all disciplines.
