Understanding How to Teach for Mastery of History | Primary

This webinar will provide headteachers, history leads, teachers and teaching assistants with an understanding of and practical guidance on teaching mastery of history, enabling pupils to develop a deeper understanding of the subject and move confidently onto the next stage.

The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) reports that an effective approach to mastery learning can, on average, lead to an additional five months’ progress, although admit that making mastery learning work successfully is challenging. Whilst there is no single established view or definition of mastery, what is known is that it is connected with the concepts of shallow and deep learning.

In this webinar Karin Doull, primary history specialist, chartered teacher, author and fellow of the Historical Association, will explore the concept of teaching for mastery in history, highlighting the benefits that effective mastery teaching can deliver, and explaining how teachers might set about developing and achieving mastery in the classroom.
