This webinar explores, explains, and summarises what the new white paper means for schools and colleges, what support they will received and how the DfE plan to make technical skills training more responsive to employers' skills needs.

On the 21st January 2021, the DfE published their ‘Skills for Jobs: Lifelong Learning for Opportunity and Growth’ policy paper.

The white paper sets out reforms to post-16 technical education and training to support people to develop the skills needed to get good jobs and improve national productivity. It establishes how the DfE will deliver on the Prime Minister’s Lifetime Skills Guarantee and plug the skills gaps currently identified at higher technician levels, including the delivery of high-value training and education.

Learning Outcomes

  • Understanding how the DfE will ensure that employers are at the heart of Post-16 skills, working closely with FE colleges and encouraging business development and innovation.

  • Recognising what investment will be made into education and training and the planned changes to deliver clearer progression routes and pathways for students.

  • Identifying the opportunities outlined from the Flexible Skills Guarantee, working towards high-quality provision and improving the delivery of careers advice in schools and colleges.

  • Understanding how the DfE will implement accountability measures for colleges, strengthen governance and support and improve educational outcomes.

  • Recognising how the DfE will deliver outstanding teaching, including a reform of initial teacher education, driving CPD and enabling stronger relationships with providers.
